The importance of detoxification + DIY detox for real life

Reclaim your energy and vitality with a simple 3 day cleanse.

Many of us look to the fresh start of the new year as the perfect opportunity to improve our health, renew our energy levels and feel better about ourselves. It’s the perfect time for a detox!

Much is written about the idea of detoxing and cleansing, and it may feel confusing as what is the best approach to do this safely and effectively, whilst keeping up with the business of day to day life.

A detox doesn’t need to mean going hungry or depriving yourself of the food you need to be nourished, but rather should be seen as a ‘reset’ and fantastic opportunity to love your body, mind and soul for improved health and wellbeing.

With this mind, as our Azulfit guests prepare to join Jo for her inspiring ‘Detox, Pilates and yoga retreat‘ this weekend, we have all the information you need to know!

Here are some important facts about the principles of detoxing and some helpful tips to get you started. Plus if you’re inspired to see how great you can feel this January, we are delighted to introduce a fantastic DIY detox guide for a 3 day cleanse by Jo and Francine … A little piece of the Azul experience you can do from home!

Why detox?

We absorb toxins through our environment and our daily diet. Stimulants in our diet including caffeine and sugar, preservatives, pesticides and heavy metals are all unfortunately part of our modern life. We take these in knowingly through the foods we consume, and also unknowingly through the air we breathe and water we drink. With this in mind, we should incorporate a detox into our annual rhythm as maintenance to help remove toxins from the body, reset our palette and help our body remove these toxins so we can be free from fatigue, stress and disease.

Our bodies are naturally equipped to deal with removal of toxins. Our digestive, circulatory and endocrine systems help us eliminate toxins through our skin, colon and urinary tract, skin, mouth and eyes. However the modern diet, full of sugar and stimulants can overload our bodies natural ability to detox and cause poor digestion.

Processed foods also lead our systems to have a build up of toxins stressing our internal organs and leading to weight gain, fatigue and may eventually lead to disease.
Finally the modern demands of work and society have lead us to be more sedentary, abandoning activity for longer hours behind the computer – this causes stress and the build up of cortisol in our systems, which dampens our bodies natural detox abilities. Its also important to incorporate movement into our lives – sweating and getting our blood & lymph flowing, to help our body get rid of toxins is so important. Movement also helps us tune in to our body and reminds us to drink enough water to help flush toxins from our system.

Don’t despair, all hope is not lost and here is where our Azulfit team come to the rescue!

3 simple detox tips

  1. Hot water and lemon – enough can’t be said about the benefits of this simple addition to your daily routine! Stimulating, hydrating and cleansing – your system gets the best possible start to the day.
  2. Stay hydrated – the body is more than 70% water so keep things flowing nicely by drinking at least 1.5 litres of water day. Herbal teas or infusions are tasty alternatives and all help to flush your system of toxins.
  3. Eat naturally and seasonally – processed foods and too much meat, dairy or gluten can overload the system, making you feel sluggish. Stick to the natural goodness of fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grains to feel lighter and give your body a well deserved break.
