Why Fuerteventura is the Perfect Place to Relax and Recharge Fuerteventura beaches

If you could use a little space to breathe, feel the sun on your skin, and time to reconnect with yourself—Fuerteventura is calling. Azulfit Pilates & Yoga retreat, operating on this tranquil, sun-kissed Canary Island is designed to give you just that: rest, revitalization, and stunning, natural beauty in abundance.

Here’s why Fuerteventura is the ultimate destination to unwind, especially in the upcoming months as spring turns to summer.

1. Sunshine and Serenity All Season Long

Unlike mainland Europe, Fuerteventura boasts consistently warm, dry weather through spring and early summer. With perfect temperatures hovering between 22–27°C, you can pack light and live barefoot. These early summer months offer the perfect climate—not too hot, not too crowded—ideal for outside yoga sessions, beach walks, or simply lounging with a book.

2. Space, Stillness & Soulful Scenery

Known as the most peaceful of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is blessed with wide open landscapes, golden sand dunes, and volcanic mountains. The island’s calm, grounding energy is perfect for tuning into your practice and allowing your nervous system to truly rest. Many retreat guests tell us they feel themselves unwind almost as soon as they step off the plane—it’s like the island gently invites you to slow down. But if you’re looking for a little activity to discover the local scenery, then here’s a couple of our favourite island adventures.

  • Hike a volcano,  Calderón Hondo – One of the island’s most accessible volcanic craters just happens to be near our retreat in vibrant Lajares. It’s a gentle hike that takes you to the top of the volcano where you are greeted by amazing panoramic views of the north of the island. This is an easy visit from our retreat and even accessible on bike, should you feel adventurous and want to truly feel on top of the world.
  •  Visit the ancient Ajuy Caves – This geological wonder is a series of coastal rock formations where you can feel the ancient pulse of the island, dating back over 30 million years. It’s so special it has been declared a national monument.

3. Beaches That Heal the Soul

You’re never far from the sea here, and each coastline has its own vibe. Here are a few favorites to explore, all within easy reach of our retreat center:

    1. Playa de Sotavento (Costa Calma) – Perfect for sunrise beach meditations or simply letting the vastness wash over you. A haven of stillness.
    2. Cofete Beach – Wild, remote, and cinematic. Great for adventurous souls wanting a raw, untamed nature experience.
    3. El Cotillo Lagoons – Calm turquoise waters, perfect for floating or snorkeling between yoga sessions. You can even find a few cool cafes nearby.
    4. Corralejo Dunes & Beaches – A stunning contrast of white sands and volcanic backdrop. Perfect for sunset picnics or mindful walks. You might recognise some of the scenery from the Wonder Woman opening scene. It’s that magical!

4. Culture & Little Adventures

Looking to explore between yoga sessions or rest days? Here are some light adventures we recommend:

    • Discover the power of Aloe Vera  – With Aloe Vera farms and visitor centers across the island, you’ll find many opportunities to learn more about this amazing plant. Our nearest center is only a few miles from the retreat, located in La Oliva. Here you can learn about the natural healing properties of the plant, how it can be used in cooking and discover many amazing natural beauty and health secrets that have been part of island traditions for hundreds of years..
    • Stroll the old capitol Betancuria – The island’s original capital is a charming, lush village in the mountains, full of traditional Canarian architecture and peaceful vibes. This place has many traditional buildings from the original Spanish and French colonies, along with some amazing photographs up on the walls of the local cafes. Your drive here will also pass the giant statues representing the original indiginous tribes, the Guanches. This location and it’s amazing panoramic views alone makes the visit worthwhile.
    • Majorero Cheese Museum & tasting room – A surprisingly interesting and fun visit is the cheese museum. Fuerteventura is famous for its incredible goats cheese which is now served in some of the best restaurants. This experience shares so much more than the cheese making process. Learn about the volcanic history of the island, its biodiversity and best of all, get to taste the variety of cheeses the island produces. My personal favourite is the delicious hard cheese with the spicy chili rind. Mmmm!
    • Island Markets – Browse for handmade crafts, natural skincare, and local aloe vera products at one of the local artisan markets. These can be found in Lajares, Corralejo and other locations. We even stock some of these items in our retreat shop

5. Nourishing Local Food & Laid-Back Vibes

Fuerteventura has a blossoming scene of plant-based cafes, fresh seafood spots, and laid-back tapas bars. Think: papaya smoothies after yoga, grilled local vegetables, or a quiet café drink with ocean views. There’s no rush here—just time to savor. One of our favourite spots is Cafe Baobab for some tasty vegan treats.

This is Your Season to Bloom

April to June is a time of natural growth and renewal—not just for the island, but for you. The energy here during this time is light, expansive, and full of possibility. Whether you’re joining us to deepen your yoga practice, nourish your body, or simply take a pause, Fuerteventura holds the space for you to rest, reconnect, and return home to yourself.
